Design tools for High Frequency and High Speed Digital design
07-03-2012 :: Belgium - Netherlands

Organizer: Agilent Technologies

Agilent EEsof EDA is pleased to invite you to our seminar on design tools for High Frequency and High Speed Digital design.

Agilent EEsof EDA is the group within Agilent Technologies responsible for modeling and simulation software. We offer a variety of tools that help designers take the guesswork out of the physical implementation aspects of their RF/uW and HSD communication product designs, reducing reliance on hardware prototyping. Be it a PCB , MMIC, package, connector or antenna.

At a location near you, organized in co-operation with industry partners, we'll highlight in several application focused presentations unique value of the latest releases of our circuit design environment Advanced Design System (ADS) and 3D Electro-Magnetic (EM) simulation platform EMPro.

Please check for the seminar locations, agenda and presentation abstracts. You can register on our registration page or simply by sending an email to marina_vandormael@agilent.com

We are looking forward to welcome you at one of the seminar stops!

Seminar presentation abstracts

Advantages in using ADS2011 for your RF and Microwave multi-technology designs
Agilent Technologies has been industry leader in RF and microwave EDA for decades and is well known for the power, capability, and flexibility of its product solutions. In this presentation we will look in detail at some of the unique advantages Agilent Technologies offers with Advanced Design System (ADS) for non-linear simulation, electromagnetic analysis, system verification and many other areas. We’ll explore the underlying technologies, how they differ from other tools and how these technologies allow solving today’s design problems more efficiently. In addition we'll give an overview of the latest enhancements which have been implemented in its most current release ADS2011.

Local customer experience
At each stop our local host will present how Agilent’s design tools have helped them in their research projects or product development

3D EM Simulation environment fully integrated with ADS
EMPro 2011 is a new electro-magnetic simulation design platform that solves EM problems of arbitrarily-shaped, passive structures like connectors, bond wires, antennas, packages - and more – in both frequency and time-domain. EMPro includes full 3D FEM (Finite Element Method) and FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) electromagnetic field solvers, a versatile solid modeling user interface, and unique 3D component technology that bridges the 3D EM design environment to the ADS circuit design environment. EMPro result viewer also allows designers to process and manipulate various simulation data such as E/H field, voltages and current as well as s-parameters.

UMS at glace
An overview of the technologies UMS has to offer and elaborate how they support the customers with their design by supplying design kits for their processes in ADS.

Design for Signal Integrity Using Channel Simulation and EM Co-design
In this presentation we highlight the benefits of using Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) in two phases of a multi-Gbit/s design workflow: pre-layout design exploration and post-layout design verification. We will show how the ADS channel simulator coupled with IBIS (AMI) support and the ADS accurate and extensive high-frequency physical modeling capability allows for the analysis and optimization of system performance parameters such as EYE opening and BER, yielding guidelines and design rules for the layout of the design. As an example of the post-layout verification phase we will show the use of ADS' Momentum 3D-planar Electro-Magnetic (EM) simulator to model the memory channel between a DDR3 Memory Controller chip and SO-DIMM. The effect of ground stitching via placement on current return path and x-talk will be examined.

Advanced PCB Analysis Techniques for Power Integrity Characterization
The full-wave Method-of-Moments (MoM) is a powerful and efficient EM simulation technique for solving a broad range of high speed digital design problems. For power integrity analysis (PI) two areas in particular benefit: 1) where trace inductances are small and the frequency ripple extends into the gigahertz range (e.g. packages and small PCBs) and 2) cost-reduced boards with separated power and ground topologies that break the solid ground plane assumption of traditional high speed digital design tools. In this paper we’ll show how Agilent's Momentum MoM simulator can help solve these problems.
Design verification through measurements: Emphasis, Equalization & Embedding
Once the prototype is on the bench, measuring on today’s high speed prototypes is challenging.  As these higher data rates introduce microwave transmission effects that cause measurement and observability problems. Where we are connected with our instrument is often not where we want to measure. Reflections cause uncertainties and even the probe used to measure changes the design to be analyzed.
This paper will focus on these basic problems and present a common method to address the growing need to Measure and Simulate simultaneously.

Fast EM Simulation for EMI/ESD Applications
This paper demonstrates innovative workflows for EMI engineers combining Agilent's EM simulation technology in ADS and EMPro to devise a remedy for radiated emissions. We will cover three examples: 1) using ADS' Momentum to determine effective EMI suppressors, 2) radiation caused by simultaneous switching noise (SSN) using EMPro's Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) EM simulator and 3) Simulation of potential Electro Static Discharge (ESD) at an HDMI Connector using FDTD with NVIDIA GPU acceleration showing the best location for ESD diodes.
