Department Description
The department of NXP Software in Leuven focuses on digital signal processing for Audio (speech and music) on Mobile devices. We deliver key software components, like acoustic echo cancellation, multi microphone noise suppression, 5.1 virtualization, etc.
Our engineering team is involved in research, in cooperation with universities; advanced development and product development; and supporting customers and regional teams with the integration of audio products in platforms or frameworks.
Job description
In order to strengthen our team in Leuven, we are looking for an audio architect.
Key/Essential Areas of Responsibility
The audio architect has good insights in signal processing and audio algorithms on one hand, and deep understanding of audio path in today’s mobile architectures on the other hand. He drives activities from requirements to implementation at customers, takes care that products are designed from user point of view, ensures maintainability and good configuration management practices, etc.
The audio architect is also key technical contact person for other team members. In order to do a good job, he does not stay on the surface, but regularly dives deep into technical issues.
Personal skills/competences
- Good knowledge of signal processing theory
- Good Knowledge about audio and acoustics
- Excellent software architecture and development skills. (Mainly C/C++ and PERL for scripting, also Java)
- Knowledge of the audio architecture of Mobile Operating systems (Android, Windows Phone 7, Meego, etc.). Experience with Android will be a real plus.
- Experience with audio drivers on mobile devices.
- Knowledge of Mobile platforms (TI OMAP, Intel, LSI, STE) and cores (ARM9/11, Cortex A8,A9, Atom, etc.)
- Fluent in English.
- Creative and accurate working attitude.
- Open personality and good communication skills
- Eager to improve efficiency in way of working
- Able to work independently for different teams.
- Able to drive activities to closure, including proper communication in the organization.

- Team player with leadership competences.
Experience level
A good audio architect needs to know our products inside and out, and needs to understand the way of working in our team. Therefore, the candidate will be assigned to many different aspects of our R&D and customer projects before gradually growing into the role of audio architect. The duration of this period will depend on the maturity and experience of the candidate. In general 3 to 5 years relevant experience is required.
